Re: Recommended books / resources

TDGTD is definitely advanced and not for beginners. If you want to get started with the Italians, I suggest their book Data Modelling for Excel. There is enough new stuff in there to give you good learning.

Re: Filtering in DAX

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your report is using some techniques that are so far from good practice that I really can't even begin to help you using the current approach. For example take your measure Month Selector 1=switch (TRUE, Min(MonthSelector[ID] ) = 1, [Jan1], Min...

Re: Recommended books / resources

I keep a list of books I recommend here http://xbi.com.au/books. Alchemy is a book that explores use cases. So it will give you ideas and patterns that you can use. It teaches by example if that that makes sense. If you want to learn deeper about dax, I recommend stepping up to the Italians. They ar...

Re: Filtering in DAX

I have looked at the attached workbook but cannot work out the relationship between that book and the problem you describe. If you can help explain exactly what is happening with a table showing the incorrect result and a manual table showing what you expect, then I can take another look for you.

Re: Context Transition

In the first formula, the maxx function is operating in the initial filter context coming from the visual. That is how it works. In the second function, the additional calculate that you have added is changing the behaviour, and instead of the maxx function operating in the initial filter context, t...

Re: Laptop specs [Solved]

I have been thinking about blogging about this (which I will do). In short. Go for fast processor speed >=3ghz is best and most important multi core (core 4 or above) >=8GB memory with fast and plenty of L2 and L3 cache. Not all memory is the same. Faster memory is better Not so important (prefer th...

Re: Cannot find the Query Editor in Excel 2106

Strange (I guess you know that). Are you able to go into existing connections and browse to the file from there?

Re: Cannot find the Query Editor in Excel 2106

If you import directly, then you should be able to bring up the import wizard by first selecting the table in Power Pivot, then select table properties. You can add the new column from there

Re: Change DAX Statement using VBA

There is a vba object model in Excel 2016, but I have never used it. You could have a look to see what objects and methods exist inside vba.

Re: Find unique customers who own multiple products

You don't need 3rd normal form for DAX.

Try this as a measure

CALCULATE(distinctcount(Customers[Name]),
filter(customers,Customers[Product] = "Product A" && Customers[Product] = "Product B" && Customers[Product] = "Product C"))
