Re: Extract a Column from a data set

After posting I think a little bit more about your first question, and... look: If you connect to database (for example, SQL Server) as data source, then better to make separate queries, not references. It is because of possible query folding: Query1 connects to database and (depending on your code)...

Re: Extract a Column from a data set

Hello Steve 1) When you duplicate (copy) query, you create full copy, i.e. "connect to source, make transformations". Each query, connected to external source, then make its own connection. So, if you would like to refresh two queries made this way, they both will connect to source, etc. T...

Re: Understanding context transition

Here is a link to a great article which explains context transition that everyone should read: http://mdxdax.blogspot.com/2011/03/logic-behind-magic-of-dax-cross-table.html Hi matthew It is great article, really, yet it sometimes tooooo technical for me. Re: Finding the name of a column in a Power Query

I would prefer to have dynamic column names so if you come across a method of finding a column name that would be great. Hi Suzy. Did you meant these rows? #"Changed Type" = Table.TransformColumnTypes(#"Removed Columns3",{{"2013.14 - zmrs1060.xlsx", type text}, }), ......

Re: Understanding context transition

I think I got the clue for solution of this issue, when we try to change or clear filter context on linked column in related table only, and do not I do not sure whether my explanation is correct in terms of Query Plans or how VertiPaq works in reality, but is seems to work in calculated columns. I ...

Hi Matt! Hopefully I have improved the clarity by removing a few errors and some better explanation. Thanks a lot, now it MUCH more clear! I thought it is not so hard question, it described so much times in books and posts. But when I tried to explain context transition for my friend, I got the same...

Re: Understanding context transition

You are asking great questions, and that shows you are well on the way to becoming a DAX ninja. This is a very hard topic with layers of complexity and your knowledge is already very good (better than most). You simply can't hope to absorb it all at once, and learning incrementally (like you are do...
