### Chapter 14 Page 119 Calculated Columns or Fields?

Hello All
I'm really enjoying Learning To Write DAX - so far, so good. However, I'm stuck...

Under Practice Exercises: Time Intelligence I have set up steps 1,2 & 3 and got my pvt ready. Directly under the pvt screenshot it says..."Write formulas for the following calculated columns.."
61. [Total Sales Month to Date] and 62. [Total Sales Quarter to Date]
Same goes for Q63 & Q64 - calculated columns or fields??

I've tried both calc columns and fields but I don't get the correct results. Do I use the pvt table set up (as above) or create a new one as shown in the answers?? I don't understand how the Calendar[DayNumberOfMonth] displays the results for Q61 &
Q62

I apologise in advance if I'm being silly and I've missed something - sorry!!

Many thanks

OMG! This is an error that I have never seen before! You are the first to highlight it to me. You are supposed to create Calculated Fields, not Calculated Columns.

The pivot table set up (steps 1, 2, 3) are for question 61. You should set up your pivot table differently for the other calculated fields. As you get further into the book, I try to give you less help and be less specific on what you need to do. Sorry if it was confusing.

Day number of month on rows only works for Q61. By definition, the month to date sales should get larger for every elapsed day in the month - that's what it does. It won't work for the QTD calculated field however

If you are still stuck, email me your workbook and I will take a look. My email address is on my website
