TotalYTD Not Working

Postby SeanAchim » Sun Sep 13, 2015 7:28 pm

I've been struggling for 4 days now :(

I need to get the Running Total of a set of values. My formula is a classic =TotalYTD(Sum([myVal]);Calendar[FullDate]) function. I've created a Calendar table in SQL Server 2012 and brought this into my data model. I've gone into the design tab and marked it as the Date Table.

I'm still not getting running totals and my deadline for delivery is now hours away.

This is extremely frustrating and I need help urgently.

I've taken out all sensitive data and uploaded the actual file I'm working on.

Please help me regain my faith in humanity today.

Okay, so after nose-bleeding hours and days of trying to make this thing work, knowing that it was going to be a simple thing, I've answered my own question.

The answer is:
Stop trying to make it work as a column in your data and just go to the bottom section of the screen and type in the formula there! Then, don't expect to see anything on your PowerPivot section - it will just show you blank value. go into Excel and create a PowerView graph (really cool) and use the column you just added and it works. Simple.

Go and use it in a PowerPivot table - and it just works.

it works inside of Excel where you want it to, not in PowerPivot Manager where you set it up.

Simple.

You have uncovered one of the facts of life for Excel users - it is easier to create measures from within the context of a Pivot Table inside of Excel rather than write them inside of the Power Pivot window.
