Re: Cannot create relationship between datetable and fact table

It’s hard to say. Normally a refresh fails when there are duplicate dates in the date table.

Re: Matrix vs table

In the first example Sales[ProductKey] on rows and Products[Weight] on values, the sales table doesn't filter the products table, hence the sum of weight is the same number you would get if you put weight in a card on its own - it is just the total of the weight column regardless of any filter on th...

Re: Creating Saletbl-Calendartbl Relationship Pg 32 3RD Ed.

Hi Stanton. Power BI was designed to work with dates. Older versions of SSAS and SQL were often more efficient with date keys. Date keys are normally a surrogate for dates (hence the term surrogate key). Technically it is possible to use a surrogate date key in the sales table and the same surrogate...

Re: Combine IF, HASONEVALUE and Value functions query page. 107

Hi Cindy The errors come from Intellisense. Intellisense looks at the function you are typing, it senses the valid syntax and will only allow you to write valid syntax. There are 2 functions. VALUE VALUES VALUE only accepts a text string, not a column. VALUES only accepts a column or table, not a te...

Re: From Cumulate to unit value

To solve this, you need a lifetime to date time intelligence function. You should get a calendar table first, and use that in your pivot table. I don’t think it is mandatory in this case, but it is good practice. https://exceleratorbi.com.au/power-bi-calendar-tables/ Then you can write a measure som...

Re: Missing the years on the column session page 53-54

The most common reason I see is because your relationship between the calendar table and the sales table is incorrect. Check the relationship and make sure it is the 2 date columns that are joined.

Re: AVERAGE and AVERAGEX -two critical Page 77

Item 1 is incorrect. The average function only accepts a single column. Item 2 looks fine to me. Try it again. Sometimes the error doesn’t reset until you click the tick in the formula bar. So if you typed 1, trigger the error and then type 2, the error still shows, but the error was with 1 and not 2.

Re: Studying Power Query, does this Data Model and relationships make sense?

It’s hard to say from the picture. I would have thought transfers, transactions, credits and debits are all types of transactions and should be in a single, standardise fact table.
