Create connection only in Power BI Desktop

Hi, I have used Power Query in Excel and make use of the only create connection followed by an append to create the table that I want.

Is it possible to do the same thing (only create connection) in Power BI Desktop ? I can't find a create connection function.

If not presumably it can still be achieved by importing the data into Power Query for Excel and carrying out the append query in Power Query, and then uploading the data into Power BI, and if so, will refresh still work and presumably I can refresh the data in Power BI Desktop.

Yes you can do it. Create the query first. When it is created, while still in the query editor, right click on the query on the left of the screen and "uncheck" enable load.
