Power BI Map to plot suburb locations

Postby masterelaichi » Wed May 20, 2020 11:49 am

Hi all,

I am trying to create a visual to plot data on a shape map. The map I am need is a one of Queensland with Suburbs or Local government areas

An example of using this would be plotting the number of Covid-19 cases in a suburb or a local government area

I obtained LGA data from https://data.gov.au/dataset/ds-dga-1680 ... government

Using this I created a TopoJson file using mapshaper. When I try to load a shape map, all I get is a blank visual. Not sure what is going

Also, could someone explain the differences between the 3 different map visuals available in power bi? When do you use each of them?

Thanks

If you want to plot by suburb, you don’t need a shape map. The standard PBI map works. The trick is to use postcode, country. Eg 4100, Australia in a column, and set the metadata for the column to be “Place”.
